Tip #0:
Make A Schedule and Stick To It. You don’t have a boss looking over your shoulder, so it can be easy to procrastinate or get distracted from work when you are at home.
Setting up some ground rules for yourself helps you stay on track with deadlines and avoid distractions. For example, if the coffee pot is in the office space then only drink water for a few hours each day instead of being tempted by delicious caffeinated beverages every time they pass through my line of sight!
Tip #l: Get Up Early If Possible. The best thing about working remotely is that I get to wake up whenever I want so if I know there’s something important coming up during the day, I can set the alarm clock to wake me up earlier so I have time to prepare!
Tip #0: Take Regular Breaks. When we’re working from home, it’s easy to get lost in our own little world and lose track of what is happening around us. Taking a break every hour or two gives you an opportunity for mental refreshment while helping you stay sharp and focused throughout your day.
It doesn’t take long either-just five minutes out of each sixty should do the trick!
Tip #l: Keep Your Home Office Clean. There are zero office politics at my workstation when I’m sitting on my sofa watching TV, but that means there are also no co-workers cleaning up after themselves if I’m the only one there.
Tip #0: Keep Your Energy Levels High with a Variety of Healthy Foods and Exercise! I’ll admit that it’s hard to find time for healthy food prep when you’re working from home, but investing in some quick-prep protein is worth it (in my opinion). It makes eating easy by just microwaving or heating up after lunchtime workouts.
The key to maintaining your energy levels as a remote worker is balancing work days between longer hours with more restful activities like exercise and short periods of intense focus on specific tasks. Some people even experience an increase in productivity this way because they are giving their mind breaks during the day while pushing themselves physically at other times so they don’t burn out.
Many people are also able to work from home full-time and earn a healthy salary. I would recommend finding some flexibility in your schedule so you can focus on the tasks that need more attention at any given time while still having flexible hours overall. This way, if something pops up with family or friends during off-hours, you’re not stuck working through it!
Some of my most productive days were when I set specific goals for myself such as “today is all about research.”
When you’re remote it’s easy to get distracted by other things online or pop into forums and chats without realizing how much time has past–set an alarm clock for short amounts of time so you have reminders to take breaks every once in awhile.
The most important piece of advice I have for people working remotely is to be your own advocate. Give yourself permission to take breaks, set boundaries with friends and family so that you can work without feeling guilty about it, get plenty of sleep if possible (it’s easy to burn out when you’re not getting enough), and make sure you are adequately compensated for the time put in! The only way this will all work as a sustainable lifestyle is by making sure things fit into place responsibly from an individual standpoint.
I hope these tips help others find success while working remotely–the biggest key for me was finding flexibility in my schedule so that I could still see my friends and family after hours or on weekends.
