The Crown – A very well crafted drama about the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
The amazing thing about this show is that it takes you on a journey with her from childhood to old age in some episodes, while other episodes are set during different time periods as she becomes an adult or deals with major events such as world wars for example. Altered Carbon – This sci-fi drama’s central focus is what happens when death isn’t permanent anymore? Taking place more than 300 years into our future, society has reached new heights technologically but also morally and ethically speaking. Human consciousness can now be digitized and transferred between bodies (called sleeves) making people immortal. It’s not all great though because there’s plenty of crime which these individuals need to solve too. Black Mirror – This British anthology series is a dark, dystopian show that’s often considered one of the best TV shows on Netflix. It takes place in an alternate present day and focuses primarily on how different technologies can affect our world and society as time goes by – for better or worse. Each episode has its own cast, plotline, and distinct tone but they all explore modern anxieties from a twisted perspective where humanity’s greatest innovations are mostly used to spy on people rather than help them.
BoJack Horseman – If you’re looking for something with animation then this should be your go-to choice because it’s hard not to love this comedy about talking animals who also happen to be Hollywood celebrities. The titular horse (voiced by Will Arnett) is a failed former TV star who decides to write a tell-all memoir that will finally give him the fame he’s always wanted. Stranger Things – It’ll take you back to your childhood with this Spielbergian thriller about life in small town, America during the ’80s and how young boys are drawn into an alternate dimension filled with creatures from another world entirely. You’ll love all of these characters as they go on their adventure together through Hawkins’ dark past where nothing is what it seems and there’s danger around every corner.
Black Mirror: White Christmas – This one has been called “Black Mirror at its best” and it’s an anthology series that is just as addictive and ambitious, but with a more festive twist.
The IT Crowd – This British sitcom tells the story of two very different guys (Richard Ayoade and Chris O’Dowd) who are both desperate for work at Reynholm Industries, one being the unqualified owner’s son-in-law and the other not even qualified to get in through the front door. With hilarious moments throughout every episode, this show will keep you laughing until your stomach hurts all night long.
